Exam sittings are available in person and online from April to September, with an additional in-person exam held at the ATA Annual Conference.
- You must be an ATA member to register for an exam. Join ATA now.
- Exams are for experienced translators or interpreters. Find out if you are prepared.
- There are specific software and hardware requirements for exams. See the requirements.
- Only specific resources are permitted for use during an exam. See list of resources.
- In-Person Exam sittings have a maximum capacity and can sell out. There are no waitlists for sold-out exams. Check the in person exam status here.
- You must register by the deadline. See exam details for the specific deadline.

The exam registration fee is $525 per exam.

ATA memberships are not refundable.

Online Exams
This is an online, on-demand exam that you schedule yourself.

The exam registration fee is $525 each.
After you register, you will be emailed instructions for how to schedule your exam.
You have 30 days from the time you register to schedule and take the online exam.
Deadlines
- The deadline to register for an online exam was August 30, 2024. (Registration for the 2024 online exams has closed)
- The deadline to take the online exam is September 30, 2024.
- Online exams will open again in April 2025.
